Youth Community Service (YCS) is a local non-profit organization that provides social-emotional service-learning resources in the Palo Alto District. Funding for 12 YCS staff and youth program facilitators comes only from individual contributions and foundation grants. 
Youth Community Service provides service and leadership opportunities to students in 10 mid-peninsula middle and high schools in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park including Gunn.

Earn Community Service Hours
Students can earn Community Service Hours with YCS.
President’s Volunteer Service Award
YCS is a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Gunn Service Day  Spring 2020 (open to all Gunn students):
    • YCS staff guide YCS-Interact students in planning this event including leading their peers in service at sites like Animal Assisted Happiness, Ecumenical Hunger Program and Magical Bridge
   • YCS organizes and covers all transportation to the off-site volunteer sites

YCS Community Service Days
Open to the Palo Alto and surrounding communities, with leadership opportunities for students:
   • Learn about and volunteer with local non-profits such as Blossom Birth, Grassroots Ecology, Canopy, senior centers, YMCA and JCC.
   • Events include Make a Difference Day in October, VA Hospital Craft Fair in December, MLK Day of Service in January.
YCS Interact Club at Gunn (open to all Gunn students):
    Weekly lunchtime service projects supported by a YCS Program Director
    • Club-led collection drives for items such as food, clothing, & holiday gifts
    • Community service-learning opportunities provided regularly throughout the year
    • Celebration of Service at end of school year

We invite financial & volunteer support by Gunn families for YCS programs at Gunn. Your tax-exempt contribution supports YCS expenses so more students can find balance and purpose through service.
