1) Your paper title and abstract
2) A brief bio (max 100 words)

Each paper will be 10 minutes, with 10 minutes allotted for questions and discussion afterwards. This format is designed for the presentation of ideas, data, and or research that is still considered “in process” and would benefit from feedback on method, scope, or other mid-stage parameters. As such, these are meant to foment discussion and dialogue. Paper abstracts (200-250 words) should include a description of the current state of the paper, including sources, methods, and implications for the broader field of music studies (broadly conceived).

Panel Submission Details
Please submit the materials for your panel proposal below. You will need to provide:

1) Details and contact information for each presenter/discussant/organizer
2) A panel abstract that describes the rationale for the panel as a whole
3) Individual paper abstracts for each presentation

Details:

An organized panel session can last 60 minutes or 80 minutes. A 60-minute panel consists of three papers, while 80-minute panels consist of either four papers or three papers plus a discussant.

Each presentation (a paper or a discussant’s formal response) is 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes of questions and general discussion. (Those interested in a more flexible format with more participants may want to consider proposing a roundtable.)

A proposal for an organized panel should be submitted by the panel organizer. The submission should include the panel abstract (describing the rationale for the panel as a whole) in addition to abstracts for each of the individual papers.

Paper abstracts (max 250 words) should demonstrate a clear focus or statement of the topic, coherent argument, knowledge of previous research, and a statement of the implications for music studies (broadly conceived).

Roundtable Submission Details
Please submit the materials for your roundtable proposal below. You will need to provide:

1) Details and contact information for the roundtable organizer and all roundtable participants
2) A roundtable abstract that describes the rationale for the session as a whole (please do not name roundtable participants in the abstract)

Details:

A roundtable provides an opportunity for participants to discuss a subject with each other and with members of the audience. A roundtable may be 60 or 80 minutes long (please specify) and may include up to six presenters.

We encourage formats that stimulate discussion and audience participation (at least 50% of the roundtable time must be devoted to discussion). The organizer will solicit position statements of ~10 minutes long from each presenter and will facilitate questions and discussion for the remaining time. The organizer should submit an abstract that outlines the purpose/agenda and organization of the roundtable, as well as the contributions of each participant (unnamed in the abstract).

The abstract (max 250 words) should demonstrate a clear focus or statement of the topic, coherent argument, knowledge of previous research, and a statement of the implications for music studies (broadly conceived).
