ITINERARY & TOUR DESCRIPTIONS

Arrival in Istanbul ----> catch 80 minute flight to Cappadocia

DAY 1:  Arrive in Cappadocia, Kayseri Airport. Welcomed by our tour guide and transfer to our hotel for overnight. Dinner is included if staying at the Crown Plaza.

Cappadocia will thrill you with its unique landscapes formed by erosions of winds and water. Today’s inactive volcanoes of Erciyes and Hasan used to be active thousands of years ago and erupted continuously covering the region with a blanket of tuff that gets eroded so easily due to its soft character. Cappadocia has been occupied by various civilizations including Hittites, Greeks, Romans and Turks living in rock dwellings for centuries.

DAY 2:  Unique Moments Optional Tour:  HOT AIR BALLOON EXPERIENCE
The day will start early morning with a magical Hot air Balloon tour, providing you with a privileged platform to observe the splendors of Cappadocia. Drift over unique rock formations and rich fertile valleys, all set against the dramatic volcanic landscape that formed the region over two million years ago.  Cost to be provided later.

After breakfast, begin your visit to the Goreme Open Air Museum. Goreme valley holds the highest concentration of rock-cut chapels and monasteries in Cappadocia. View the churches with superb Byzantine frescoes depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, the life of Christ and deeds of the Saints.

Proceed to Pasabag Valley, containing some of the region’s most striking fairy chimneys. Here you will see a chapel dedicated to St. Simeon and a hermit’s shelter built into one of the three-headed fairy chimneys. You will also visit the famous town of Avanos that was established by the Hittites on the riverbanks of Kizilirmak River. Making use of the red clay that is obtained from the shores of this famous river, Hittites created outstanding examples of pottery ware and used potters’ wheel as early as 2nd millennia BC. You will join a pottery workshop at one of the studios of a pottery artist of Cappadocia and watch the interactive presentation of creating masterpieces of pottery and ceramics.

You will end your day by descending below the earth’s surface into the Kaymakli Underground City, where five levels extend below ground and include living quarters, kitchens, wine presses, storage rooms, stables, and ventilation shafts. Early Christians carved out these subterranean complexes to avoid invaders who swept across the plains of Anatolia from the 6th to the 9th Century.
Overnight stay at your hotel in Cappadocia, dinner is included if staying at the Crowne Plaza.

In fact, keep your eyes peeled throughout your journey as you are sure to see plenty of these charming beads in everyday Turkish life.

The Roman Hippodrome - Istanbul Attractions - Istanbul Tours

DAY 4:   Breakfast at the hotel. Your private guide will meet you at your hotel lobby for your half-day tour of the city.
Begin your day with the visit of Hippodrome, once the vast arena that functioned as the heart of sporting (chariots races and athletics) events and political activities of the old city.

The Blue Mosque, one of the most famed masterpieces of Ottoman religious architecture. Standing in great prestige with its six minarets and perfect proportioned dome, it is named after its Turquoise colored tiles made of quartz minerals. Ottoman Sultans preferred to pray in this timeless shrine due to its incomparable beauty until when the empire collapsed after the World War. The more you listen to the in-depth lectures of your private guide today, the more you will comprehend the priorities the administrators of Constantinople had to execute to ensure that the city continues its existence in safety against external threats.
Take a short walk to the magnificent Hagia Sophia, the Church of Divine Wisdom. Ranking as one of the greatest marvels of World architecture, this awe-inspiring building was constucted as a basilica in the 6th century by Byzantine Emperor Justinian.

Your half day tour will end with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, the vast and legendary covered market that is the biggest souk in the world with nearly 4000 shops of antiques, jewelry, and carpets.

A Be Local Eat Local Experience: TURKISH COFFEE AT SARK KAHVESI

Take time to enjoy a traditional Turkish coffee at the historical coffee roaster located in the Grand Bazaar. Each variety of coffee has been prepared with a blend of traditional knowledge, experience and of course a true passion for coffee (at your expense).  Rest of day at leisure, overnight at the hotel.

DAY 5:   Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy your half-day tour to explore the historical sites of the city.

You will visit the Spice Market, the second largest covered market in Istanbul. It was constructed in the 1660s as part of the Yeni Camii (New Mosque) complex. The name derives from the herbs, and spices imported from or through Egypt. It is still the best place to buy Turkish delight, dried fruit, exotic spices and herbs.

Take a short break at Ali Muhiddin Haci Bekir’s shop, the inventor of one of Turkey's most famous delicacies called “Turkish Delight”. The name Haci Bekir has become a legend in Ottoman and Turkish confectionary and here you will be able to enjoy many varieties of this delicious, sweet treat. Soak up the old-world atmosphere of this charming shop and take home a box of delights as a wonderful souvenir.

Your last stop will be Rustem Pasha Mosque. Designed by the Ottoman imperial architect Mimar Sinan for Grand Vizier ‘Son-in-Law’ Rüstem Pasha (husband of Princess Mihrimah Sultana, one of the daughters of Suleiman the Magnificent), the construction was carried out from 1561 to 1563. The Rüstem Pasha Mosque is famous for its many exquisite Iznik tiles that depict a wide variety of beautiful floral and geometric designs. These priceless tiles have been used to decorate the mihrab, minbar, walls, columns and the interior and exterior façades of the enclosed portico. These tiles use the cherry red that is characteristic of the early Iznik period (1555-1620). No other mosque in Istanbul makes such a lavish use of these tiles.  Rest of day at leisure, overnight stay at the hotel in Istanbul.

Later in the evening, enjoy a spectacular illumination cruise between 7:30-11:30pm gazing at the iconic structures of Istanbul as they glow against the night sky. Set menu dinner with limited local drinks (2 glasses of local wine or 2 beers or 2 soft drinks) will be served on the boat.

DAY 6:  Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy your half-day tour to explore the marvelous highlights of Istanbul.

You will visit the magnificent Topkapi Palace Museum. Gain a fascinating insight into this grandiose complex of buildings that formed the residence of the Sultans and the women of the Harem for 400 years. There are four main courtyards which contain extensive gardens, pavilions, fountains, royal gates, divans, kitchens, libraries, mosques and the Harem. Visit the Treasury which houses a glittering collection of jewels, arms and armor, ceramics, imperial costumes and miniatures. It is in the Treasury where you will find the famous Spoonmakers Diamond and Topkapi Dagger.

Explore the private areas of the palace and learn some of the colorful stories of the infamous HAREM – the residence of the Sultan’s wives, concubines and children who were guarded by black eunuchs. There will be time for contemplation in the pavilions and time to imagine the scene when the gardens were once lit by candles riding on tortoises’ backs.

Yerebatan Sarnıcı
Just a short walk across the square takes you to the Underground Cistern, the largest of the many underground cisterns built during the Byzantine Empire to supply the city with water. This cistern is especially fascinating because the Byzantine builders recycled many stone structures - capital heads and columns-- that had been used in earlier temples. Now an upside-down Medusa stares out at us from her watery home.   Rest of day at leisure.  · Overnight stay at the hotel in Istanbul.
