Fields of interest

MPR volunteers provide crucial services to better the life of Pit Bull dogs and engage in a multitude of benevolent activities, essential to the success of the organization. Our volunteers are entirely responsible for all operations and acutely involved in every aspect of this enterprise. Since we do not have paid staff, all volunteers must actively participate in order to maintain their membership.

Please review each section below and select the field(s) that meet your interest and abilities.

FOSTER TEAM:

If you are interested in fostering dogs for MPR, please complete our APPLICATION FORM and select "Interested in fostering" when asked.

SHELTER TEAM:

MPR volunteers operate a small shelter in Kansas City MO (in the Raytown area). The shelter houses 10 to 12 Pit Bull type dogs or other Bully breeds.

There are 1 or 2 volunteers per shift and the daily schedule is divided in 3 daily shifts, 7 days a week. AM, MID and PM. Each shift takes 3 to 5 hours to complete. Volunteers commit to as many shifts as they want, with a minimum required of 2 shifts a month.

Volunteers receive a short training before being responsible of all shelter operations during their shift. Volunteers carry-out various tasks such as cleaning, feeding, medicating, training, dog-walking, to name a few.

Volunteers must have the ability to control large, sometimes unruly dogs, lift-up somewhat heavy items such as dog food, withstand the elements for outdoor cleaning, etc. Volunteer's reliability is essential to the well-functioning of the shelter.

You must live within 40 miles of Kansas City for this volunteer opportunity. Note that a shelter shift is the best way to be introduced to our organization and become actively involved.
