The following are some of the volunteer opportunities available with Boxers and Buddies. Please fill out the sections that you may be interested in. You can fill out as many or as few sections as you'd like.

Fund Raising

As a Non-profit organization, 100% of our income is derived from private donations. We need volunteers willing to plan and hold these events. This is the soliciting and gathering contributions such as money or other resources, by requesting donations from individuals, businesses, charitable foundations, or governmental agencies. This would require you to plan and set up events and call, write or visit with possible donors. This also requires direct interaction with the public and the ability to promote our rescue group.
Without fundraising, we would not be able to continue our rescue work.
 YesNoOther:
Are you interested in fund raising?
Do you have a reliable vehicle?
Are you available on weekends?
Do you enjoy working with the public?

Event Volunteer

We hold and attend many events throughout the year. These events are important to promote the rescue, show-off our wonderful dogs for adoption, raise much needed funds, and spread the word about Boxers and Buddies. Event volunteers need to travel to the events, set up the booth or area for the event, attend the event for the hours you signed up for, help care for the animals that attend the events, talk to interested adopters, and promote the rescue to every passer-by.
 YesNoOther:
Are you interested in events?
Do you have a reliable vehicle?
Are you available on weekends?
Do you enjoy working with the public?
Are you comfortable "selling" (raffle tickets, doggie kisses, gift baskets, ect)
Do you have experience with large dogs?
Are you comfortable cleaning pee/poo?

Office/Computer Work Volunteer

Most of the work behind Boxers and Buddies is not the fun and glam of getting to play with dogs all day. There is a TON of office type work involved. There are files to be maintained, photocopies, paperwork to copy, file, sort, tax donations to fill out, phone calls to return, thank you notes to write and send, mail to be sent, the list goes on and on. We always need help "behind the scenes" to keep Boxers and Buddies running smoothly.
 YesNoOther:
Are you interested in helping with office work?
Can you get transport to Boxers and Buddies' office?
Are you computer saavy?
Are you available on weekends?
Can you scan documents from your home/office?
Are you organized?
Can you navigate the internet?
Do you have experience filing?
Can you sit, stand, bend and move freely?

Kennel Volunteer

Although ideally we would like all of our dogs awaiting adoption to be in a foster home at this time its not possible. Many of our dogs board at a local kennel. The facility allows our rescues to stay for free, even though it puts a horrible strain on their employees and financially they are having difficulty housing our 20+ dogs and still making money. We need to help them out before our rescues have no where to go, except back to the shelter.
We need volunteers to walk dogs, feed, give medicine, exercise and help clean the facility.
 YesNoOther:
Would you like to volunteer at the kennel?
Do you have experience with large dogs?
Are there breeds that you're not comfortable with?
Are you comfortable cleaning pee/poo?
Can you bend, stand, and move freely?
Do you have sensitive skin or allergies to cleaners?
Do large groups of dogs scare you?

Dog Volunteer

Many of our dogs live in a dog daycare/kennel facility. They get very little individual attention and interaction. Many of our dogs have never had training and need some manners. Some dog have issues like playing to exhuberently or pulling on the leash or jumping on people. These are all things that Dog Volunteers will help with. Dog volunteers will take the kenneled dogs on walks, hikes, through dog training (sponsored by Boxers and Buddies), and even teach them tricks or agility. Getting the dogs out, well behaved and social is the #1 thing that will get them into permanent, loving homes.
 YesNoOther:
Are you interested in being a dog volunteer?
Do you have a reliable vehicle?
Can you commit to working with a dog 2 or 3 times a week?
Are you comfortable with transporting a dog in your vehicle?
Can you commit to a 6 week training class (pre-paid, class meets 1x per week for 1 hr)
Can you control a large dog?
Are there breeds that scare you?
Are you patient?
Are you calm?
Are you reliable?

Reference and Follow up Calls Volunteer

All prospective adopters must provide personal references and a vet reference. Volunteers are needed to call and check out these references and report back prior to an adoption. We occasionally need to call people that have surrendered their dog, landlords, vets to obtain records and follow up on dogs that have been adopted in the past. We do lifelong follow-ups and support for our previous adopters. Some of these calls take time and may incur phone charges.
 YesNoOther:
Are you interested in being a Calling Volunteer?
Do you feel comfortable calling people and inquiring about prospective adopters?
Do you have access to a telephone during both days and evenings?
Do you have an answering machine or voice mail to receive returned calls?
Do you have a calling plan that will financially allow you to make many calls?
Are you comfortable with strangers having your phone number?
Are you organized and reliable?
Are you available to make calls durring the day, evenings or on weekends?

Adoption Volunteer

Adoption volunteers are one of the most important parts of the rescue. Without them, there would be no adoptions. These volunteers are the ones that receive and review EVERY application that comes in. They need to find and recognize potential warning signs and problems, call the potential adoptor for a phone interview, set-up a meet and greet, prepare all paperwork for adoption, do the home checks and complete the adoption - placing a homeless dog with its new family.
 YesNoOther:
Would you like to be an adoption volunteer?
Do you feel comfortable calling people and inquiring about prospective adopters?
Do you have access to a telephone during both days and evenings?
Do you have an answering machine or voice mail to receive returned calls?
Do you have a calling plan that will financially allow you to make many calls?
Are you comfortable with strangers having your phone number?
Are you organized and reliable?
Are you available to make calls durring the day, evenings or on weekends?
Are you comfortable visiting strange homes?
Can you remember a series of guidelines that will disqualify someone from adopting
Would you be able to deny a family a dog?

Transporting Dogs Volunteer

At some time or another all dogs in our organization need transport. Sometimes its from the shelter, to the vetrinarian, to a foster home, or to their new home. This will require travel to/from the transport locations, which can possibly incur gas and toll costs. It also requires putting a strange dog in your vehicle, so a crate or confined area is recommended. Sometimes the dog will experience motion sickness or other events that could make a mess in your vehicle. Sometimes there are multiple dogs that need transport.
 YesNoOther:
Would you like to do transport?
Are there breeds that you're not comfortable with?
Do you have a reliablevehicle to make the trip(s)?
Do you have a crate or other means of humane restraint?
Are you aware that the dog(s) may soil your vehicle?

Fostering Volunteer

We are limited to the dogs we save by the number of locations we can place the dogs until they're adopted. We cannot afford to pay boarding fees and the current facility is asking us to cut from the 30 dogs that now stay there to 8 dogs. That means we will only be able to house 8 dogs without the help of foster families. A foster family cares for the dog like they would their own dogs. Boxers and Buddies will provide food, supplies necissary for care, and cover approved vertrinary expenses. In order to become a foster home, please continue with the foster application portion of this form.

If you do not want to apply to be a foster home, press the NO button, then please scroll to the end of the foster volunteer section and continue with the rest of the volunteer application.

I would like to offer my home and be a foster family for a dog awaiting adoption.

IF YOU MARK "YES" ALL ITEMS BELOW MUST BE COMPLETED IN ORDER TO QUALIFY AS A FOSTER HOME.
INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
