(Up to $3000 for an individual applicant and up to $5000 for two or more applicants)
Funds may be used for required course fees, travel, lodging, books, and materials. In addition, funds may be used to create lesson plans and to share materials with district colleagues. Fellowship funds may not be used for payment of tuition towards an advanced degree.
Compensation for time spent sharing newly acquired knowledge with colleagues should be included in your budget. This Stipend should be budgeted according to district compensation guidelines for curriculum development and in-service workshops, which are found on page 22 of the SOMEA/BOE Agreement. (Participants in workshops provided by the fellowship recipient(s) will be eligible to receive professional development hours.)
Materials obtained with fellowship funds shall become the property of the South Orange-Maplewood School District.

The Michelle Traina Riecke Teaching Fellowship
Shelley Riecke was a resident of Maplewood for eleven years. For six of those years she was an elected member of the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education and served for two years as the board president.
Shelley was a strong supporter of our public schools and she worked countless hours to ensure that all children in the school district receive a quality education.
