Dr. John Perkins- Thursday, July 17, 6:00p.m. (location to be announced). Known nationwide as the proponent of Christian community development, racial reconciliation, and empowering the poor, “papa John” has agreed to come to Waco and kick off this outstanding training event.
Dr. Randel Everett- Friday, July 18, Meyer Center, 1226 Washington, 8:30-9:45a.m. The new Exec. Director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas leads the largest State denominational work in the nation. Recently elected, Everett is attempting to give new vision and direction that addresses state-wide concerns.
“Holistic Programs”- Friday, July 18, 10:00-5:00, Meyer Center, 1226 Washington. Jimmy Dorrell, instructor and board member of Christian Community Development Association (CCDA). I am privilege to teach one of CCDA’s “Institutes” on how to develop “empowerment-based” programs which help the poor and marginalized. Both theological and practical training is included.
Spanish Language Version..”Church Based Community Development” (Robert Guerrero) Friday, July 18, 10:00-5:00, Meyer Center, 1226 Washington. Same as above, but for Spanish speakers. Guerrero is an outstanding pastor/leader in the Dominican Republic. This CCDA Institute focuses on how to develop “empowerment-based” programs which help the poor and marginalized. Both theological and practical training is included.
“Bridges Out of Poverty”- Saturday, July 19, 8:30-3:00, Meyer Center, 1226 Washington. This is the outstanding training of Ruby Payne’s research and work of re-framing how we understand the thinking and actions of the poor. Scott Talley, a certified trainer from Waco, will lead the workshop.

“Other Side of Waco Tour”- Saturday, July 19, 3:30-5:15, (begins at Meyer Center). This tour of north, east and south Waco helps local residents see and understand the unique issues of the community and what can be done to address them.
“The World Banquet”- Saturday, July 19, 6:00-7:30 (Training Center, 628 N. 15th St.) As a part of Mission Waco’s “Poverty Simulation,” participants of the workshop are welcome to join the group in a unique “banquet” which deals with global poverty, worldviews, and missional realities.
Meals...Lunches are provide on Friday and Saturday and dinner on Friday evening. All meals are included in the $50 package cost.
